Kent Heritage Festival 2026 – Beating the Heat One Step at a Time

The Kent Heritage Festival always brings out an incredible crowd, and today was no exception. From the moment we opened, we were surrounded by familiar faces, new customers, and plenty of people looking for some award-winning Jose Madrid Salsa.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans.
With temperatures climbing throughout the afternoon, the heat became simply too much for Michael to safely continue working. Rather than trying to push through dangerous conditions, he made the smart decision to call it a day early. Heat exhaustion isn’t something to gamble with, especially during long outdoor festivals.
That meant it was time for Jordan Lang to step in and finish the day.
What surprised me most was just how quickly the heat began taking its toll. Within only a few minutes of working in the direct sun, I could already feel the effects setting in. My heart rate increased, my clothes were soaked, my energy dropped almost immediately, and it became obvious that this wasn’t just another warm summer afternoon—it was one of those days where you have to respect the weather.
Events like these are a great reminder that staying cool isn’t about comfort—it’s about safety.
Some Tips We’ve Learned Working Summer Festivals
Whether you’re a vendor, spending the day at a fair, or just enjoying an outdoor festival with your family, a little preparation goes a long way.
• Drink water before you feel thirsty. Once you’re thirsty, you’re already beginning to dehydrate.
• Electrolytes matter. Water is great, but replacing the minerals you lose through sweat can make a huge difference during all-day events.
• Wear light-colored, breathable clothing whenever possible.
• Find shade whenever you can—even five or ten minutes can help your body recover.
• Eat throughout the day. Small snacks can help keep your energy up.
• Pay attention to warning signs like dizziness, headaches, nausea, excessive fatigue, or confusion. Those are signs it’s time to stop and cool down.
Some Cooling Gear Worth Checking Out
Every summer, outdoor workers discover a few products they wish they’d bought sooner. If you’re planning on attending festivals, sporting events, camping trips, or spending time outdoors this season, these are all worth considering:
- Rechargeable wearable neck fans
- Cooling towels that activate with water
- Phase-change cooling neck wraps
- Portable misting fans
- Large insulated water bottles that keep drinks cold all day
Many retailers—including Amazon—typically run some of their biggest discounts during July shopping events, making this a great time to pick up summer gear before the hottest weeks of the season.
Most importantly…
